MACBA brings together a variety of key works showcasing artistic creation from the last fifty years. As well as exhibiting work from its own collection, the Museum also offers a wide-ranging programme of temporary exhibitions from contemporary artists and organises activities on contemporary art and culture.
The Museum is an international leader in the dissemination of art and contemporary cultural practices. Located in the historic centre of the city, its iconic building was designed by the US architect Richard Meier and overlooks the energetic square of Plaça dels Àngels.

Programme

Each season, MACBA offers more than ten temporary exhibitions, including retrospectives of contemporary artists, emerging art collectives and representative figures from the world of contemporary creation. Each show is complemented by an interesting programme of activities: children’s workshops, seminars, lectures and free guided tours included in the ticket price. Many exhibitions are accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue.

SERGI AGUILAR. REVERSE/OBVERSE (1972–2015)

Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona takes us through four decades of the sculptural practice of Sergi Aguilar (Barcelona, 1946). The exhibition is structured around five episodes that create a dialogue between the pieces and the thematic cycles of different periods, recreating the dynamics of the artist’s own working space.
The atmosphere of the studio has been translated into the museum, not only by a certain semblance of accumulation, but also through an almost infinite web of possible and random relationships between the works.

NEW INCORPORATIONS TO THE MACBA COLLECTION

The exhibition Desires and Necessities at MACBA presents acquisitions made in the last three years –some never seen before– with works that were already part of the Collection. Enjoy the works of artists such as Richard Hamilton, John Baldessari, Marcel Boodthaers, Öyvind Fahlström, Allan Sekula and Dieter Roth, among others.
